Passing Judgement
One of my biggest pet peeves is people who prejudge others. Now I know that everyone, at some point or another, will judge or does judge others. Sometimes it’s inevitable, and I understand that completely, but passing judgement on someone whom you have never met before or have talked to before bothers me the most.
How is it far to assume bad things about someone when he or she hasn’t even had the chance to show you who he or she actually is? Everyone deserves a chance to explain themselves. For all you know, that person you just judged for wearing too much make-up or wearing baggy clothes could be doing so for reasons that are very personal to them, and unbeknownst to you. What if the girl with too much make-up is trying to cover something up? What if the guy or girl in the baggy clothes just lost a lot of weight or doesn’t feel comfortable with their bodies? Who are you to be the judge? Who gave you that right? If a person’s behavior doesn’t have any affect on you, then you shouldn’t judge them for that or tell him or her how to live life.
Which brings me to another thing I hate. Friends that judge their friends. I was out the other weekend and having a good time. My perspective of a good time doesn’t always match up with my friends’ perspective of a good time. Because I’m in Madrid at the moment, me and my good friend email each other back and forth once a week, and so I described my weekend to her. In hindsight, I probably should have kept some details to myself. But, my friends here haven’t judged me for what happened, so why should she? The reason I’m feeling judged is because she has not yet responded to my email. Accordingly, one of my other friends (who is a mutual friend of ours) has not been responding to me as of late either. There have also been some other hints that my story of my weekend has been shared amongst these people and frowned upon.
What makes me most upset is that my friend has NEVER EVER judged someone in her life for doing something she didn’t agree with. So why now and why me? I would like to point out that I’m assuming that this is what’s happening, but it’s leading me to point out a good message. The other friend I have known my ENTIRE life, and so, if he is also judging me for things that I’ve done, I’ll be disappointed to not be able to call him my friend anymore. Friends don’t judge their friends. If anything, they give advice and try to help. Ignoring someone is not the answer. Always tell people the truth, no matter what. I’ve had a rough past two years and if anything it’s made me more sensitive to judgement. I may or may not actually be being judged, but that’s what bullying does to you. It really fucks you up.
So anyway, I just wanted to put that out there. That people don’t have the right to judge others. It’s unkind and unfair. Think before you start passing judgements on someone next time. Who are they and what do they mean to you? Do you really have the right to think whatever it is your thinking?

can’t win ‘em all
No matter how hard you try, not everyone is going to like you. The sooner you realize and accept this, the sooner you can carry on with your life. Don’t let the bitter ones drag you down.
